A poem I wrote about an autistic child who can see her mother the day of her funeral

Eskimo kisses from heaven

Katrina wants to go outside.

She wants to play, She wants to slide.

But little does Katrina know,

to look outside, to see the snow.

She opens the door and out she goes,

forgetting her shoes- not covering her toes.

As she steps out on the icy cold ground,

she lets out a very loud squealing sound.

"Mommy, Mommy, come quick, come see!

God made it snow... he did it for me!

This is florida and snow is so rare,

but I prayed and I prayed! This prooves that god cares!"

The excitement builds up...too much to contain.

Something happens inside,... inside of her brain.

Her hands start to twitch, her eyes look away,

she's up on her toes, she's ready to play! :o)

Katrina starts thinking, and thinking... real fast,

from the snow on the ground, to her mom from her past.

She looks down at her cold toes turning blue,

then runs inside to find her shoes.

Her daddy looks out in disbelief,

Could this be a miracle on 48th street?

As he pulls her socks up over her toes,

Katrina gives eskimo kisses to the air with her nose.

She smiles and nods and then looks at her dad,

wonders why he can't see her, and why he's so sad?

Katrina is special, she's one of a kind,

she's what we call autistic... with a beautiful mind.

But not to worry, her mommy will always be there,

with warm eskimo kisses... and a god that does care!!

This is something I thought of late one night. Thoughts of what if something happened to me, how could I make sure my daughter with autism knew I would protect her always... I was crying when I wrote it.
